My Story

Violet’s father died of AIDS in 2003.  Violet’s mother is HIV positive and earns a very small living as a peasant farmer.

Before coming to New Hope, Violet lacked money for books and school fees and often did not have enough food to eat.  For a time, a local pastor supported Violet’s education, but when he was no longer able to, Violet was forced to stay at home and help her mother in the family’s small garden.  Violet slept in a small, grass-thatched mud hut with her mother and siblings.

Violet is now under the full care of New Hope.  After finishing school, she wants to become a lawyer.
