My Story


Although both of Umaru’s parents are still alive, they are divorced and HIV positive.  Umaru lives with his father in the Arubaine slums of Busia. 


Umaru’s father makes less than $1/day and is unable to provide Umaru with basic necessities, including food and educational support.  Umaru helps support his father and siblings by fetching water and scavenging scrap metal.  Umaru moved to New Hope in October of 2007. Umaru wants to finish scool and become a doctor.
