My Story

Musa never knew his mother, who abandoned the family when he was still very young.  Before coming to New Hope, Musa lived with his father, a boda-boda (bicycle-taxi) operator earning less than two dollars per day, and 3 siblings in a small, one-room shanty in the Arubayini slums of Busia.

Musa could not go to school regularly due to a lack of school supplies, which his father could not afford.  On the many days he was sent away from class, Musa would collect scrap metal from dumps and side-streets and then sell the scraps over the border in Kenya.  On a typical day, Musa earned the equivalent of $0.13, ate no more than twice, and shared a papyrus mat at night.  Not attending school regularly and spending most days completely unsupervised, Musa was identified as a child at high risk of becoming a street kid and brought to our program by his father. Musa wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

Musa is now under the full care of New Hope.  With your help we can continue to provide Musa with all of his nutritional, medical and educational needs.  To sponsor Musa, please click the “donate now” button below.
