Meet Jowel

My Story

Jowel’s parents divorced when he was still very young.  After the divorce, Jowel’s mother left Jowel with his father and returned to her home village.  Before coming to New Hope, Jowel lived with his father in a small, grass-thatched hut in the countryside of Budaka district and shared a couple mats and blankets with his three siblings.

The kids ate only once per day, mostly from food collected from their father’s small garden, and were often beaten severely.  Jowel rarely attended school due to a lack of supplies and spent most days digging in the garden and fetching water from a well several kilometers away.

Jowel was brought to New Hope by our watchman and is now under our full care.  His dream is to become a pilot.
