Meet Hadija
My Story
Hadija lost her father to HIV/AIDS in 2003. Two years later, her mother also succumbed to the virus.
Thus, at the age of 16, Hadija became the head of a household of 5 people. Without any other adult in the family willing to provide for her and her siblings, Hadija was left as the primary caregiver and sole income-earner for the family. Hadija was forced to drop out of school in order to provide for her siblings. She worked hard to generate a small amount of income by carrying and selling water in the slums of Busia, but was hardly able to provide enough food for her five younger brothers. A friend of Hadija’s mother provided a small amount of support to Hadija and her family, but even this was not enough.
Hadija and her brothers are now under the care of New Hope. Hadija is back in school, eating well and receiving proper medical care whenver she falls sick. With your help, we can continue to provide all of Hadija’s nutritional, medical and educational needs. To sponsor Hadija, please click the “donate now” button below.
