My Story
Evelyn’s father, a polygamist with two wives, died of AIDS in 2003. Immediately following his death, Evelyn’s mother disappeared for unknown reasons. Evelyn then stayed with her father’s other wife, but was routinely mistreated, fed only once a day and forced to work instead of attending school. After running away from her father’s wife, Evelyn went to live with an aunt.
Evelyn receives a very small amount of support from New Hope in the form of school supplies, food, clothing and healthcare. Evelyn dreams of finishing school and becoming a nurse.
