Meet Ashia

My Story

Both of Ashia’s parents died of AIDS while she was still too young to remember them.  Ashia was taken in by her feeble grandmother, who suffers from high blood pressure and other health problems.  While living with her grandmother, who had no reliable source of income, Ashia slept in a small, single-room shanty, rarely washed her clothes and ate one meal every two days.

Ashia attended school for some time under a government program for universal primary education, but was forced to drop out due to a lack of money for examination fees.  When not in school, Ashia earned a small amount of money fetching water for her neighbors.

Ashia is now under the full care of New Hope Africa Children Ministries. Ashia dreams of finsihing school and being an accountant.
